Bentley is a six-month-old ,classic brindle male with natural ears and cropped tail. BHBR does have his papers to show his lineage, but they will be voided since he has been neutered. He is also vaccinated, on heartworm preventative, wormed and in good health. He is currently healing from a couple of fairly large sores on one side of his body. BHBR is not sure if he got close to a moving vehicle, or if he injured himself trying to get out of an enclosure; however, Bentley is healing nicely.
Bentley is a little timid at first, but with time, he will open up into his true boxer puppy personality. He has had little training, and BHBR believes this is why he ended up in a shelter. With a lot of love, a little bit of training, Bentley will be your dream boxer. He is as sweet as they come and quite handsome for being in the middle of his “gawky” stage. His coloring is very pretty, he could use a few more pounds, but other than that, he should thrive in a loving home.

This little guy will not last long in rescue. BHBR would advises that any interested applicants begin the adoption application process now to ensure your application is added to the potential adoptive pool for Bentley. As with all our boxers, BHBR will choose the family we feel is best suited for each boxer. He will need commitment, and a required by BHBR adoption contract, attendance in a group obedience class. Meet Sage!
Sage is an adult reverse brindle female with natural ears and a cropped tail. She is an itty bitty little boxer girl that wants nothing more than to please her people. She is able to scale a fence or climb out of an outside kennel. Again, this is because she wants to be with her people and is not happy left outdoors for long periods of time.
Sage has lived with children, other dogs, but has not been tested with cats. She is very curious about really dominant small dogs, but is easily redirected. She knows basic obedience commands. She is house and kennel trained. She walks nicely on a leash, the entire time staring lovingly up at you.
This little girl is BIG on love. She’s would be an easy dog to start with if you are new to the boxer breed. She makes these funny little noises when she is excited. It sounds like she is saying num num num!
Her coat just glistens. She has a lot of black in her coloring and it is very striking. She does need to put on some weight, and has been since arriving in rescue. She has a healthy appetite and is easy to train with food as a motivator.

Brando is a young, adult brindle male with natural ears, cropped tail and some beautiful white markings. He is a very friendly boy and has such charming characteristics to his personality! He continually wants to please, cuddle, play and just love you. He’s very good with other dogs. Brando’s petite for a boxer boy and will not get any bigger. He is neutered, chipped, vaccinated, wormed, and Heartworm negative. He’s ready for his Forever Home!!
If you are looking for a first time boxer, or one that is easier to manage, this little fellow would be your guy. He’s smaller, very playful, but listens when you want him to stop. He does need to learn some things, but he’s only a year old, so that will come.
Brando a refresher on house training, is kennel trained, but does pull on the leash some. He will do the typical boxer jump up on people, but he is not obnoxious about it like some boxers. He wants to know who his people are that will LOVE HIM FOR LIFE (and he will love them back and do as they ask). Boxers strive to please their owners and bond quickly. Brando listens very well and is happiest curled up in your lap.

My name is Diva. I’m looking for my forever home? Will you help me?
Diva is a two-and-a-half year old classic fawn female with natural ears and a cropped tail. She is a large boxer girl. Diva is house trained, crate trained, walks well on a leash and listens very well to commands. She’s been very playful with the other dogs in the house, BUT if you allow your dogs on the furniture and she’s up there, she’ll growl at the other dogs. When left to just play, she plays very well with them. BHBR would not recommend putting her in a home with small dogs or cats. She needs strong ownership, as she is a dominant female. If she’s an only dog, she’ll be a perfect dog.
Diva is a funny girl that will turn herself inside out to get your attention. She loves people, children and she just wants to be with you . She just needs to know that you are in charge so she doesn’t have the stress of feeling like she has to watch out for you.
Diva’s adoption donation will be $250.

Jaiden is a six-year-old “hearing” white female with pretty markings on her ears and head. Jaiden is house trained, has been through formal obedience training and lived with the same family her whole life. She’s lost her family due to NO fault of her own.

Right now, she is fostering with an adult male boxer and an adult female pug/terrier mix. She seems to have adjusted right away and hasn’t shown any problems. Check back for an update on how she is on a walk. She met a husky pup recently and was really good with him. She does seem overly interested in cats. She’d need someone who knows how to work with dogs and cats to make sure the cats are always safe. BHBR would prefer she doesn’t go to a home with cats. Jaiden has lived with children and has loved them.
She’s very thin right now, so her foster family is working on putting some weight on her first and foremost. Check her bio for more information as she spends time in her foster home. She is spayed and up to date on vaccinations. Jaiden’s adopt donation will be $175.

My name is Sophie and am looking for my forever home! Can you help me?

As of 1-15-10 Sophie’s last x-rays showed no change. She has doubled her weight, is continuing to use her leg without pain, so Dr. Falcon said she can be adopted. She will develop arthritis in the joint eventually, but there is nothing surgically which can do to make it better. Since it is not getting worse, the vet does do not want to amputate. She will not be a jogging dog, but she will limit herself on what she can and cannot do. She can live a normal life, just not excess exercising. She’s very playful with the bigger dogs. She is learning potty training and crate training and doing very well. She is ready for her forever home. If interested please apply — her adoption donation will be $275.
As of 1-1-10: Sophie weighed in at 8.1 pounds two weeks ago at her vet visit. The vet did extra x-rays of her elbow and discovered she has a congenital deformity of the Humeral Condyle —it is missing. There is also evidence of a slight fracture at one time too. The leg is also smaller than the other one now. BHBR will go to the vet every two to three weeks for x-rays until a decision has been made about treatment. BHBR happened to have access to one of the region’s leading Canine Ortho Surgeons at the veterinary clinic at the time, so he reviewed the x-rays too. The x-rays were forwarded to the Vet National Network for additional feedback from other experts. There was some sign of bone re-growth, which is what BHBR is hoping for, as there may something to pin in the future. Right now the joint is displaced.
She does not act as if she is in any pain. She continues to use the leg and there is no infection, so BHBR will continue with the course of action unless she should start to show signs of pain.
Background: Sophia is a nine-week old flashy fawn female with natural ears and a cropped tail. She has a very bad injury or degenerative disease in her right front elbow joint. It is going to take a very expensive surgery to try to save the leg, and she may still lose it. BHBR’s is to plan to give her every chance possible to save her little leg. She is a beautiful little girl with a darling, spunky personality. She’s very intelligent and already knows “go potty” and will do her business outside every time as long as you keep an eye on her. She shows you the signs. She will not be available for adoption until all of her medical needs are taken care of.

Tallulah is approximately 20 weeks old. She is a deaf white boxer with one blue eye and one brown (just adorable!). She’s very smart and has learned many signs for commands already, with the predominate training going into the “go potty” command. She’s gets along very well with other dogs, is living with a cat right now and is the sweetest little girl. She’s doing great with all of her training!!
Tallulah
She was spayed last week, has had all vaccinations including rabies, worming and microchip. She is ready for her FOREVER HOME. Interested people should not be afraid of her deafness. Review www.deafdogs.org for more information for on owning deaf dogs. Deaf dogs are very easy to care for. BHBR does require a “hearing” dog in the house and a fenced yard.

For those wanting to add another member to their family, think adoption first when considering a new pet! Look to your local shelter or rescue organization for that new member of your family.
Here is what BHBR requires from our potential adoptive families:
1. Fenced Yard– Fence must be made of a material that will contain a dog, and goes completely around the yard with secure gates. Four feet tall is minimum height, six feet tall privacy fence is preferred.
2. Boxer Kept as Companion Animal–Boxer will be kept as an inside dog, a companion, part of the family.
3. Nutrition–Boxer must be kept on HIGH QUALITY DOG FOOD. The reason the rescues look so good after spending time in this program is because of the nutrition they have been receiving. Read the ingredients label and make sure there are no “by products” or wheat and corn, should be gluten free. The meat should be the number one ingredient listed.
4. Veterinary Care–Boxer will be kept up to date on ALL yearly vaccinations, including Heartworm Preventative even if the disease is NOT prevalent in your area. Boxer will be treated for ANY and ALL health issues that arise, regardless of COST, with the exception of a senior dog.
5. Forever Home–Boxer is getting adopted into his or her FINAL and FOREVER home. If for ANY REASON this does not turn out to be true then adopter is responsible for bringing Boxer directly back to Rescue. There will be no exceptions.
6. Training–All boxers 2 years of age and under require the adoptive family take their new Boxer through a round of Group Obedience Classes. This must be scheduled within 30 days of the adoption.
7. Adoption Range–You must reside within our adoption area. The area includes, the State of South Dakota, and approximately 300 miles from Rapid City into the states surrounding the Black Hills region.
